Birdwatching in the Ebro Delta

Would you like to practice birdwatching in the Ebro Delta? Here you will find a small paradise where up to 343 species of birds have been identified. How many birds can you identify?

Birdwatching is one of the most practised activities in Deltebre. You do not have to be an expert, but it is important to have good binoculars and to have a strong interest in learning, little by little, to identify the different types of birds. You will be able to see species as the little egret, black-winged stilt, glossy ibis… and the star of the Ebro Delta Natural Park, the flamingo.

BIRDWATCHINGBEFORE YOU START

puntWhen?

The best seasons to birdwatching are spring and autumn, when the weather is better, and the rice fields are filled water. And the best time is in the morning and sunset.

puntWhat do I need?

  • You do not need any licence to birdwatching but be responsible in the restricted areas since they are hibernation and/or nesting zones.
  • Remember to bring your binoculars. And it would be great if you get a bird guide or identifier too!

asterisc_okMEETINGS, CYCLES AND WORKSHOPS

The faunistic wealth and the great variety of birds allow some entities of the area to organise several ornithology encounters, cycles and workshops. And during the World Bird Day (always held on the first weekend in October) you can visit the wildlife recovery centre and the viewpoint of Canal Vell. The companies that organise these events are Associació Ornitològica de les Terres de l’Ebre Picampall (Terres de l’Ebre ornithological association) and Ecomuseum of the Ebro Delta Natural Park.

asterisc_okPLACES TO GO BIRDING

You can go birdwatching in the Ebro Delta almost everywhere in Deltebre. However, we strongly suggest you go birding in the designed viewpoints in the areas of natural interest. Birdwatching is a very entertaining activity and a great plan to enjoy by yourself or in good company. There are different options for this activity. You can go birdwatching on your own or you can choose a guided tour organised by Associació Ornitològica de les Terres de l’Ebre Picampall (Terres de l’Ebre ornithological association) or by the Ecomuseum of the Ebro Delta Natural Park.
